One of the most significant events of World War II, D-Day marked the Allied invasion of Normandy, France. Over 156,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in a massive operation that began the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control.

Anne Frank, a Jewish teenager in hiding in Amsterdam, was arrested by the Gestapo along with her family and others. Her diary, which she had kept during her time in hiding, would later become one of the most famous accounts of life during the Holocaust.
