The game Monopoly is patented

Adolf Hitler publicly announced the rearmament of Germany in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. This included the expansion of the German military and the reintroduction of conscription, marking a significant step towards the militarization that would lead to World War II.

On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, establishing a system of old-age benefits, unemployment insurance, and aid for the disabled and needy families. This act was a cornerstone of Roosevelt’s New Deal and transformed American social welfare policy.

Wallace Carothers and his team at DuPont developed nylon, the first synthetic fiber. Nylon would go on to revolutionize the textile industry, being used in everything from stockings to military parachutes.

The construction of the Hoover Dam, one of the largest infrastructure projects of its time, was completed in 1935. Located on the border between Arizona and Nevada, the dam provided flood control, hydroelectric power, and water storage, significantly impacting the development of the American Southwest.
